Drowned Forest

Cheow Lan lake in Khao Sok, where a dam filled a valley and left the crowns of the trees standing up out of open water. They are still there, decades on, bleached and patient, marking where a forest floor used to be a long way beneath your boat. The limestone runs off to the horizon behind them, entirely indifferent. It has watched a great deal of this sort of thing, and it will watch the dam go too.
