Geyser Fire

The Norris basin is the most volcanic ground in North America, and that morning it was breathing. A thunderstorm came dragging itself across the flats and the steam rose up to meet it, until I could not have told you where the earth left off and the weather began. Then the sun found one gap in all that gray and spent everything it had through it. The pools went the color they keep hidden. Whole days are given to waiting on a minute like that, and it never announces itself. It simply arrives, and you are either standing there or you are not.
