The conservatories at Gardens by the Bay, mirrored in still water, the towers of the financial district standing behind them like a second, harder skyline. A garden built as a machine, in a city that built the ground the garden stands on. There is no wilderness in this photograph whatsoever, not an acre of it, not a square foot. I went expecting to find that hollow. I stayed until the lights came on, and I did not find it hollow at all.
