Fire Arch

Thick and menacing plumes of smoke were closing in fast over Canyonlands that morning. The conditions kept nearly every other photographer away, which is very often the moment worth staying for. There was hardly any illumination at sunrise at all, and then the colors came in with the storm, full force, as the clouds arrived. I was perched off to one side to take the weather rather than the sun. Fire does something to light that nothing else on earth can do.
