Deep in the Israeli desert stands the ancient stone fortress of Masada, high above the Dead Sea. A rocky mesa that is both a historic site and a historic argument that has never been settled. The rising sun came in through the inner rooms of that labyrinth and brought a bright fire into an entirely barren landscape. What happened on this rock is the reason anyone climbs it. The light arrives along the same wall it has climbed for two thousand years, and is indifferent to every word of it.
