Hallstatt on a still winter morning, seen through the last few leaves the lakeside had left to give. At that hour the water does not move at all, not a ripple, not a breath on it, and it simply holds the whole town, upside down and perfectly patient, waiting. Then the first boat comes out from the jetty and undoes the entire arrangement in about nine seconds. I was very glad to have been there before the boat.
