Sunburst Mesa

Fifteen below Fahrenheit, and only the stubborn were still standing there when the sun came. The rest had gone back for coffee and I do not blame a single one of them. Then it burst through the arch and let go streaks of light unlike anything I had seen. The hard bright colors of Utah paired with the exact right amount of heavenly gold. It lasted perhaps an hour. It is the kind of hour that makes you forgive the whole discipline for every morning that came to nothing.
