Verona from above, looking down the Adige toward the Ponte Pietra. That bridge has been thrown down and rebuilt more than once, the last time out of its own drowned pieces, hauled up from the riverbed stone by stone and set back where they had been. The light falling across it has never once needed repair. Some things you mend by hand, at great cost, over years. Some things simply keep arriving, free, every evening, whether or not anybody is on the bank to see.
