Balloons going up over the rock chimneys at first light, thirty-odd of them at every height at once, the sun still low enough to be properly orange. From the ground they are entirely silent. That is the part nobody tells you. The only sound in the whole valley is the burners, going off one by one like distant doors closing, and they are a long way off.
