A fan favorite of the southwest tour, and deservedly: Horseshoe Bend is one of the finest examples anywhere along that vast river of a full hundred and eighty degree turn, and tens of thousands come every year to look down at the calm water underneath it. I was met on this trip by constant smoke. Fires were raging that season and gave their own strange spin to a classic. The water goes round because the rock would not move. Then, over several million patient years, the rock moved.
