Grizzly Solitude
A fine art photograph by Justin Cooper
An extremely large male grizzly met me on the road while I was cycling through Denali. We kept a generous distance between us, generous on my side, indifferent on his, and he lost interest in me almost immediately, which was precisely the outcome I had been hoping for and the one that stings slightly. As he went back into the woods the light came across his fur in the most beautiful way, and by then he had entirely forgotten I was there.
