Killer Eyes

There are a handful of animals on this continent that will not let you near them, and the lynx sits at the head of the list. All ears and eyes and enormous quiet feet, gone before you have decided what you are looking at. I sat with a five-hundred for hours, going numb, watching nothing happen. And then it came, not driven, not cornered, but out of some decision entirely its own, and it put its eyes straight down the lens and held them there. I did not earn that. I was only there for it.
