The Turn

A curve of highway on the Oregon coast, a sea rock standing off it, and fog stacked along the horizon waiting its turn to come in. The road is the only straight edge anywhere in the picture. The one line in the whole frame that somebody chose, laid across a landscape that decided everything else about itself long before we arrived with the asphalt. I pulled onto the shoulder for five minutes and stayed an hour.
