Alpen Glow

Alpenglow is an optical phenomenon: a reddish band that appears near the horizon opposite the sun once the sun itself has gone. It is not the sunset. It is what the sunset leaves behind on the mountains afterwards, and it is better. Here at Glacier it comes only a few weeks of the year, when the angle is right, and it lasts a matter of minutes. Mountains that were already magnificent were cast a brilliant pink, and it took the legs out from under me.
