Window Seat

The north face of the Eiger, from the cog railway that climbs past it and does not stop. I took it through the glass without getting off, because getting off is how people come to stay on that face permanently. Frost on the inside of the window, the carriage warm, the mountain doing what it has done to better men than me. I have no ambitions in that direction and I felt no shame about it. Some views are best received sitting down, with something solid between you and them.
