A chapel standing alone in a Dolomite meadow after fresh snow, the peaks behind it still packed in cloud and in no hurry to come out. Somebody hauled every stone of it up here, and then the bell after the stones, and then came back on Sundays through weather like this to ring it. The mountain has yet to notice any of it. I stood in the snow a long while and found that funnier, and then sadder, than I had expected to.
